Statement
of Beliefs

.

At The Foyer, the guiding principle of our beliefs is simple: In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; and in all things, love. We fight to be a community where love is infused in every word spoken. While we do not expect everyone who walks through our doors to hold the same perspective, our teaching and our rhythm of life will always point back to these truths.

Essential Beliefs

We shamelessly white-knuckle these beliefs because these are doctrines that must be true for the Gospel to remain congruent and comprehensive. We stand our ground on these truths, and we fight for them with dignity to protect the eternal reality of the Gospel. Our team agrees, teaches, and espouses these beliefs personally and professionally.

On the Nature of God

God is perfectly good, wholly trustworthy and endlessly faithful. He is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in love. He is just in all His ways, forgiving rebellion yet holding nothing guilty unpunished. His power and knowledge are inseparable from His goodness. Every act of God is aimed at fully redeeming creation.

On the Trinity

God has only one nature, yet eternally exists as three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Spirit. Each Person of the Trinity is fully God, co-eternal, and co-equal in their divine status; however, they are relationally distinct. The trinity models perfect love, communion, and mutual indwelling, revealing that God is inherently relational. God's love is not contained within Himself but overflows toward creation, culminating in the sacrificial love of Christ for humanity. The Triune nature of God ensures that His justice, love, and wrath are perfectly aligned, reflecting both holiness and mercy.

On Mankind

Humans are created by God in His image, reflecting His character, creativety, and relational nature. The primary purpose of humanity is worship - to glorify God and reflect his goodness in the earth. Though sin marred the image of God in humanity, it was not erased; we are designed for restoration through divine transformation. Christ is the perfect Image of God, the second Adam, modeling the fullness of human design. The Christian journey is a process of growing into Christlikeness, restoring the Image of God in our lives.

On Sin

Sin is any failure to conform to or any transgression of the will of God. Because of the fall, all humanity is born into sin and incapable of perfectly keeping God's law. Sin mocks the holiness of God, defiles His goodness, and rightfully deserves eternal separation from Him. The fall was born of deception - Satan's lies and humanity's disobedience brought the curse of sin and suffering to all generations. Even in judgement, God foresaw redemption; He knew the blood of Jesus would one day cover the multitude of sins and magnify His glory forever.

On Salvation

Salvation is found in Jesus alone who, by His eternal love, reconciles sinners to the Father. It is not earned by moral virtue or human effort, but received through faith in the finished work of Christ on the cross. Justification is the gift of righteousness--errevocably imputed to those who confess and believe that Jesus is Lord. Salvation is both a completed work and an ongoing process, as God redeems His Children through justification, sanctification, regeneration, and glorification. The cross is the center of this story - Christ's substitutionary death paying the price for sin and making forgiveness freely available to all who believe. Through repentance, baptism, and the continual communion with Christ, believers are daily renewed into His likeness and drawn into deeper union with the Father.

On the Bible

God's creative and redemptive work has always come by the words he speaks. The Bible is the written word of God - inspired by God himself, and recorded by man. Scripture is entirely true and wholly authoritative, reflecting God's omniscience and omnipotence. The 66 books of the biblical canon are therefore the final rule of faith and life. Though written in different covenants, all of Scripture finds its unity and fulfillment in Christ, who reveals the full redemptive intent of God's Word.

On Jesus

Jesus Christ is the incarnate Son of God - fully God and fully man. Through the mystery of the incarnation, God revealed Himself in flesh, expressing His perfect love for creation and fulfilling the ancient promise of the Messiah. In His humanity, Jesus experienced every limitation and temptation yet remained without sin. In His divinity, He bore the full wrath of the Father, died, was buried, and rose again, conquering sin and death once and for all. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus opened the way for humanity to dwell in the intimate presence of God forever.

On the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the eternal Spirit of God—the third Person of the Trinity—present and active even before creation itself. Proceeding from the Father and the Son, the Spirit convicts the world of sin, reveals Christ to unbelievers, and empowers believers for transformation and service. The Spirit regenerates hearts, bestows spiritual gifts, and produces godly fruit as evidence of new life. Through the Spirit, believers are taught truth, reminded of Christ’s words, and empowered to live out the Gospel with supernatural love and endurance.

On the Church

The Church is the Body and Bride of Christ—the global family of God and the visible expression of His Kingdom on earth. The local church is a gathered community of believers committed to the Great Commission, making disciples for the glory of God. Through relationship, outreach, growth, and service, the Church proclaims the gospel and nurtures spiritual maturity. The Church practices two ordinances: baptism, symbolizing death to sin and new life in Christ, and communion, remembering Christ’s body and blood given for our redemption.

Secondary Beliefs

These are the specific beliefs that The Foyer deems Biblically true and accurate. We hold these beliefs with strong conviction to protect the faithfulness of our church. However, we do not foster disunity, argue, or debate these issues within The Foyer or with any other organization or group that believes differently. Staff are not expected to agree with all of these beliefs, but they must submit to them.

On Sexuality

Churches have largely failed to teach and model holy sexuality in a way that sees people for the weight that they carry regarding sexual orientation and sexual brokenness. We must be awake and aware of the fact that ALL people were born with sexual brokenness. The Church, therefore, must be a safe and redemptive place where those wrestling with sexual brokenness can experience the grace of God, be cared for, and grow in holiness without fear of discrimination, slander, or exclusion. God's design for sexuality is clear: HOLY sexuality - within the expressed and faithful covenant of one man and one woman in lifelong marriage OR in celibate singleness. God gave us this standard along with his life-changing grace. Our doors are open to all. We pursue love, restoration, and transformation as evidence of His redeeming work in every life.

On Gender Roles and Leadership

We believe that both men and women are created in the image of God, equally bearing His character and carrying His delegated authority to build His Kingdom. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit and the distribution of spiritual gifts—including teaching and leadership—are not restricted by gender. Following the pattern of the early church, we celebrate women as vital co-laborers, teachers, and leaders who proclaim the Gospel and nurture the Body of Christ. While we maintain that the governing role of lead pastor/elder is a responsibility designated to men to mirror God's design for sacrificial headship, we are passionately committed to developing, launching, and empowering leaders of both genders to see the fullness of God's Kingdom realized.

On Civil Government and the Kingdom of God

We believe that while human governments are established under God’s sovereign care, they remain secondary to the supreme authority of His Word and His Kingdom. We honor the biblical call to be "salt and light" by submitting to earthly leaders and fulfilling our civic duties—rendering to Caesar what is Caesar’s—while reserving our ultimate allegiance for the One upon whose shoulders all government rests. Our primary identity is found as citizens of Heaven, and as such, we engage in the world not through the lens of partisanship, but through the lens of the Gospel—advocating for justice, loving our neighbors, and praying for those in authority.

On Race and Ethnicity

All humans are created in God’s image and possess inherent, non-negotiable worth. God calls His people to reject partiality and favoritism, for division dishonors His covenant and corrupts His Church. The Church must embody humility, brotherly love, and unity, confronting every temptation toward comfort, superiority, or exclusion with faithful courage. True unity embraces diversity, reflecting God’s glory as revealed in the countless worshipers from every nation, tribe, and language before His throne.

On the Miraculous

We believe the Church lives in a continuous season of the Spirit’s power, characterized by the same miraculous wonders—dreams, prophecy, and healing—that marked the early Church. The Holy Spirit uniquely gifts every follower of Jesus at the moment of salvation to build His Kingdom and serve the common good. These gifts are not badges of maturity or prestige, but tools of love intended to confirm the Gospel and strengthen the Body of Christ. While we eagerly desire spiritual gifts, we practice them with order and humility under the authority of the local church, ensuring that every expression points back to the peace and glory of God.
